Ethical Principles and Good Practices
ModaPalavra, as an e-journal, plays a crucial role in widely and freely disseminating scientific research related to the field of Fashion in conjunction with various areas of knowledge. It is committed to adhering to ethical principles that respect academic and intellectual culture. To this end, it is guided by the best practice guidelines set forth by the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors (ABEC Brasil) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). These principles must be observed by all parties involved in the publication process: editors, authors, and reviewers.
Duties of the Editor
Evaluate submitted manuscripts without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, 1 regionality, political or ideological stance, and theoretical perspectives, without being influenced by the pursuit of personal or commercial advantages or sources of income.
Ensure confidentiality by keeping all information about submitted manuscripts secret, except with regard to reviewers and the editorial team.
Not use information contained in manuscripts submitted to the journal in their own research without the express written consent of the authors.
Ultimately decide which manuscripts will be published in the journal, considering both the results of blind reviews—without, however, feeling obliged to abide by them—and the non-compliance with other aspects of the Editorial Policy.
Be receptive and open to complaints about ethical aspects or incorrect content in relation to submitted or published manuscripts, as well as take the necessary and appropriate measures to address the complaints presented, in accordance with the recommendations of ABEC and/or COPE.
Read and accept all Conflict of Interest Policies adopted by the Journal.
Duties of the Reviewer
Be familiar with the journal's profile, author guidelines, and publication standards.
Assist the editorial team in making decisions about the publication of submitted manuscripts through blind reviews and the recommendation of improvements to the authors.
Immediately notify the editorial team of their availability or unavailability to carry out reviews for which they have been invited, the impossibility of meeting established deadlines, the existence of conflicts of interest regarding the manuscript, or the lack of qualification to evaluate it.
Prioritize objectivity and clarity in the evaluation process, with solid arguments in the recommendations or criticisms, considering the theoretical-methodological approaches explained in the manuscript.
Evaluate manuscripts without considering the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, regionality, political or ideological position, or theoretical perspectives, and without being influenced by personal, commercial, or financial interests.
Treat manuscripts as confidential documents. Do not show, discuss, or comment on manuscripts under review with third parties, whether in person, in publications on websites, social media, or other digital communication platforms or media (even anonymously).
Do not use privileged information or ideas obtained from reading and evaluating manuscripts for personal benefit.
Decline to review manuscripts that present conflicts of interest for competitive, collaborative, or other reasons arising from their relationship with the authors, companies, or institutions involved in the manuscripts.
Read and accept all Conflict of Interest Policies adopted by the Journal.
Reviewers will receive a statement accrediting the evaluations carried out, and their names will be published in a list in the last issue of the year.
Duties of the Author
Ensure the originality of submitted manuscripts, guaranteeing that they are unpublished and of consistent scientific character, without similar content to other works published in scientific journals, conference proceedings, dissertations, theses, or other forms of scientific production and dissemination. If it is a substantially modified and updated version, the editorial team must be informed. If approved, it will undergo a similarity analysis, as with all manuscripts, and may be rejected if it presents a percentage that compromises originality.
Commit to avoiding redundancy, multiplicity, or simultaneity of publication, refraining from submitting the same manuscript to another journal concurrently, even without a guarantee of publication.
Certify that the manuscript does not contain fraudulent, distorted, or intentionally inaccurate statements. Any form of plagiarism constitutes unethical and unacceptable editorial behavior.
Observe a 12-month interval between the publication of a work and the submission of another manuscript by the same authors.
Always use recognized sources in the creation of the manuscript. Any private information (images, documents, or other data) or information shared confidentially must only be used with the explicit written consent of the sources or copyright holders.
Adequately cite the ideas, concepts, and expressions of other authors mentioned in the manuscript, following the Journal's Standards, ensuring that they are not categorized as plagiarism.
Provide complete data on all authors, including the link to the Lattes curriculum and the ORCID identifier at the time of submission.
Comply with the maximum number of authors (up to four) and the minimum permitted qualification (at least one PhD in co-authorship with master's students). The main author acts as the corresponding author, and the order of authorship must be defined at the time of submission. All authors must sign a publication consent form with their respective Lattes and ORCID.
Accept and comply with the Submission Conditions and the Author Guidelines, available on the journal's website.Submit the authorization from the Ethics Committee of the institution linked to the research (when applicable).
Immediately inform the editorial team if significant errors or inaccuracies are detected in a published article, cooperating in its correction.
Disclose the funding sources related to the research after the final approval of the manuscript, including grants or support from funding agencies.
Be aware of all Conflict of Interest Policies adopted by the Journal.
Authors have the right to defend themselves against accusations of plagiarism or unethical conduct and to receive objective evaluations, written in a constructive and respectful manner, that contribute to the development of the manuscript and the researcher's formative process.
The ModaPalavra e-periodical is hosted on the Udesc Periodicals Portal, which ensures the preservation of its digital content through the PKP PN system, with backup through regular security copies made by Udesc.
Conflict of Interest Policies
Conflicts of interest occur when external influences may compromise the objectivity of the editorial process.
Types of conflicts of interest:
Financial – Relationships with companies that may benefit from the study's results.
Academic – Institutional links or rivalry between researchers.
Personal – Family, friendship, or enmity relationships between authors, reviewers, or editors.
Political/ideological – Participation in organizations that may influence the research.
Conflict management:
Editors and Reviewers must decline to evaluate manuscripts in which any type of conflict of interest exists.
If an Editor has a conflict of interest with an article, another member of the team must supervise the process.
If a Reviewer has a conflict of interest with an article, they must immediately notify the editorial team.
Sanctions:
If a conflict of interest is discovered after publication, the journal may issue an erratum, retract the article, investigate the situation according to the severity of the case, or even remove the publication.
