This article is an approach to the theme “objects-as-memories” (clothes in special) as
social relations, and aims to present a methodological procedure for clothing analysis. The
methodological approaches here included were specially based on an 1950’s coat and intend
to raise discussions about memory, clothing and material culture. Artefact and magazine
advertising analytical tools, which help us understanding the highly important role of material
features of clothes for research in the fields of fashion, design and culture, are described as
well. The text focus thereby in the comprehension of clothing as a document, offering the
reader methodological processes of analysis for this purpose.
