Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and not being evaluated for publication by another journal; otherwise it must be justified in "Comments to the Editor".
  • Submission files are in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF format (as long as they do not exceed 2MB).

  • URLs for references were provided when needed.

  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in Authors Guidelines in the About Journal section.
  • The identification of authorship of the work has been removed from the Word Properties file and option, thus ensuring the journal's confidentiality criteria if submitted for peer review (e.g. articles), as per instructions available in Ensuring Blind Peer Review.

AUTHORS' GUIDELINES

EDITORIAL POLICY

National and international researchers are invited to participate with researches of the Visual Arts field.

Submissions:

The publication is quarterly (three annual editions), and the texts can be submitted in two ways: Thematic Section (theme and deadline determined) and Continuous Flow.

Languages: Portuguese, Spanish, French, English.

Systems of evaluation and selection of texts and papers:

The papers received will be submitted to the Editorial Board, which will examine the paper’s adequacy to the editorial’s research line journal and its norms. They are also submitted to the ad hoc referees (through the blind evaluation system), which can accept, refuse, or suggest changes to the author.

Formats:

  1. Articles must have a minimum of 20,000 and a maximum of 40,000 characters with spaces, including bibliographical notes and references. They must be unpublished contributions.
  2. Interviews may range from 5,000 to 10,000 characters with spaces, including bibliographical notes and references.
  3. Reviews should be of books with a maximum of 24 months of publication in Brazil and, in case of international book, 48 months, containing between 20,000 and 30,000 characters with spaces.
  4. Propositions records and artistic reports must contain between 8 and 10 images, accompanied by an expanded abstract of 5,000 to 10,000 characters with spaces. This section is dedicated to the experimental writing of Brazilian and international artists.
  5. Visual Essays should come from consolidated visual artistic research and should be specially designed for publication in Palíndromo magazine. They must contain up to 8 images.
  6. Translations will be evaluated according to the translated text's relevance and should have a maximum of 40,000 characters with spaces.

Rules for submission/publication:

  1. The texts submitted to Palíndromo Magazine must respect the character limits of each format.
  2. They should be typed in Winword format, Arial 11 font, 1.5 space, A-4 page format, 2.5 margins.
  3. They must contain

a) title in Portuguese; must be in bold, capital letters, Arial 14, centralized.

b) title in a foreign language (English, mandatory and 3rd language);

c) author(s): for submission, the name(s) of the author(s) must be omitted. Later, in the publication of the article, the name(s) of the author(s) will be (s) aligned to the right, Arial 10, and, in an exclusive footnote for each author, the mini Curriculum of 2 lines (maximum allowed), the institution to which it is linked, the link of lattes CV (for Brazilian authors) and its ORCID, accompanied by an updated e-mail.

d) abstract in the language of the text (Cf. ABNT NBR 6028/2003. Between 100 and 250 words); it must be presented in 1.0 space, source Arial 10, justified paragraph. The abstract should contain the paper’s object, the methodological procedures, the results, in certain cases, and the conclusions.

e) 3 to 5 keywords in the text’s language, separated by periods; must be presented in 1.0 space, font Arial 10, justified paragraph.

f) abstract (100 to 250 words) in the foreign language (English, obligatorily, and 3rd language); must be presented in 1.0 space, font Arial 10, justified paragraph.

g) 3 to 5 keywords in foreign languages (English, obligatorily, and 3rd language) separated by a period; must be presented in 1.0 space, font Arial 10, justified paragraph.

Images:

a) They should be inserted in the body of the text with a resolution of 300 dpi.

b) In the case of already published images (also tables, graphs, or similar), it is obligatory to cite the sources in accordance with the applicable copyright legislation.

c) They must be mentioned in the body of the text (Fig.1, Fig.2...).

d) Must be accompanied by captions with complete technical file, containing: Fig.1 Name of the Artist, Title of the work, year. The technique, dimensions. Location. Source: (can be a link or the name of the author of the register). The legend must be presented in space 1.0, font Arial 10, centralized paragraph.

Citations:

a) The magazine adopts the system (AUTHOR, DATE) with complete references at the end of the text.

b) Quotations inserted in the text must follow the norms of ABNT 10520, which provides that: direct quotations with less than three lines must be inserted in the text, and placed between double quotation marks, with declared indication of the author, date, and page; direct quotations with more than 3 lines must be presented without quotation marks, with a 4 cm indentation of the left margin, space 1.0, in Arial 10, with declared indication of the author, date, and page in brackets. Ex.: (AUTHOR'S LAST NAME, year, p. 123). Indirect citations must indicate the author(s) and date in brackets: ex1: According to Calasso (2004), ... ex2: Not always the gods were understood only as literature (CALASSO, 2004).

c) The following resources must be used: to indicate [...] exclusions; [] to indicate interpolations, additions, or comments.

d) Verbal information: for verbal information data in lectures, debates, etc. with the reference data in the footnote.

Use of italics: for foreign words, the title of works, and emphasis given by authors. Do not use bold in the text and notes. Underlined only in Internet addresses (URL).

Notes: use the automatic footnote insertion tool at the end of each page.

References: Based on ABNT NBR 6023: 2018, it should be allocated at the end of the text.

Ethics Committee: texts referring to research involving human beings must prove the approval of the Research Ethics Committee as recommended by the guidelines and norms of Resolution 0196/96. The authors must insert a scanned copy of the declaration of approval of the institution's Research Ethics Committee.

Deadline for submission of the same author: a period of 2 years must be observed between one submission and another from the same author.

It is mandatory to fill in all the data and information of the text in the submission process. Note that the "metadata" section requests the indication of the Lattes link, to be inserted in the URL field, the ORCID code (which must start with http [without the S] and mini resume.

CONDITIONS FOR SUBMISSION

As part of the submission process, authors should check the submission’s conformity for all items listed below. Submissions that do not meet the standards will be returned to the authors.

  1. The contribution is original and unpublished and is not being evaluated for publication in another journal; otherwise, it must be justified in "Comments to the editor.”
  2. The submission files are in pdf format.
  3. URLs for references have been provided when necessary.
  4. The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in the Guidelines for authors.
  5. The identification of the authorship of the paper was removed from the file and the Word Properties option, thus ensuring the confidentiality criteria of the journal if submitted for peer review (e.g., articles), according to the instructions available in Assuring Blind Peer Review.
  6. The metadata was completed correctly and completely.
  7. All texts in which plagiarism or self-plagiarism was identified will be returned to the authors for adjustment. An acceptable percentage of the originality of 15% is considered. Palíndromo uses the iThenticate similarity control software
