“Não somos contra os bois estilizados”: tensões e conflitos entre Estado e artistas populares

Tácito Borralho (2006) afirma que o bumba-meu-boi pode ser analisado por categorias do teatro de animação, pois apresenta características que possibilitam sua identificação como gênero animado. A partir de entrevistas e de trabalho de campo em Parnaíba/PI (janeiro e abril de 2017), comento a mudança radical no formato do XVII São João da Parnaíba (2017), principal festa popular da cidade. Insatisfeitos com a modificação arbitrária pela Prefeitura, vários grupos de bumba-meu-boi não participaram do evento. Partindo do caso e de itens do regulamento da festa, foi possível perceber que a relação entre Estado e grupos de boi pode se dar de forma autoritária ou aberta aos anseios dos artistas.
