Abstract: The theatre of Don Ramón del Valle-Inclán has always had a relationship with puppet theatre. But for del Valle, puppet theatre was not a conclusion but a departure: a reference where his aesthetic of the Esperpento is located. This paper proposes to take the reverse route: it uses the Esperpento, the literary point of arrival of Valle-Inclán, to extract from it some dramatic principles that can be applied to puppet theatre.
Keywords: Puppet theatre; dramaturgy; Esperpento; Ramón del Valle-Inclán.
