Abstract

El teatro ha sido una de las manifestaciones artísticas que más se ha
desarrollado en Puerto Rico, particularmente durante el pasado siglo. Este desarrollo ha ocurrido gracias al esfuerzo y labor de una serie de personas e instituciones que se dieron a la tarea de establecer una tradición teatral en Puerto Rico, entre ellas, el Departamento de Educación de Puerto Rico. El teatro infantil y el teatro de títeres puertorriqueño también emergen a través de estas iniciativas, ya que en Puerto Rico se carecía de esta tradición. El propósito de este artículo es el de trazar el desarrollo histórico del teatro de títeres puertorriqueño desde sus inicios a mediados del pasado siglo hasta el presente.

Manuel Morán Martínez, SEA – Sociedad Educativa de las Artes (Puerto Rico – EUA)

Doutor em Teatro pela New York University - NYU; Mestre em Teatro Musical pela mesma universidade; Bacharel em Artes, com ênfase em Humanidades e Drama pela Universidad de Puerto Rico. Fundador e diretor artístico da SEA - Sociedad Educativa de las Artes com sedes em Porto Rico, Florida e na cidade de Nova Iorque. Diretor teatral e ator titeriteiro. É Vice-Presidente da UNIMA - União Internacional da Marionete. Em 1999 inaugurou o TEATRO SEA, único teatro latino para crianças na cidade de New York e possivelmente o único dos Estados Unidos. Reside parcialmente na cidade de New York e San Juan, em Porto Rico.
