Abstract

O presente estudo analisa os principais aspectos e funções do Karagöz,
teatro de sombras da Turquia. O texto evidencia as complexidades do espetáculo e suas relações com a cultura do país demonstrando, sobretudo, que este teatro é a representação do sentido total da vida. Analisa aspectos como a dramaturgia, o trabalho do ator-animador das silhuetas, o papel da música, o uso dos recursos de comicidade apontado no Karagöz como teatro que se aproxima de concepções modernas como o teatro da “convenção consciente” ou o teatro teatral. Dentre as diversas funções destaca que os espetáculos do Karagöz servem também de válvula de escape para as exigências de sociedades austeras e puritanas. Isso já torna este
teatro atual e universal.

Metin And, Universidade de Ankara (Turquia)

Nasceu no ano de 1927. Foi advogado, escritor, crítico
de teatro, estudioso da cultura turca, professor no Departamento de Teatro da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Ankara, Turquia. Sua vasta produção acadêmica e bibliográfica lhe rendeu diversos prêmios dentro e fora de seu país. Faleceu em 2008.
