Abstract

O estudo problematiza as concepções recorrentes sobre o que é Teatro de Bonecos e discute a importância de pensar essa arte de modo expandido e para isso usa a expressão “atuação com coisas”. Analisa diferentes facetas que envolvem a ideia de representar com coisas, suas especificidades e diferenças com outras formas de expressão cênica, destacando as relações do ator com os objetos que atuam.

Abstract: This study analyses the recurring concepts about what is Puppet Theatre and discusses the importance of considering this art more broadly. To do so, it uses the expression “acting with things”. It analyses different facets involved with the idea of representing with things, and its specificities and differences with other forms of scenic expression, highlighting the relationships of the actor with the objects that act.

Doutor em História do Teatro e professor na New York University. É marionetista e iniciou suas atividades artísticas
com o Bread and Puppet Theatre. Atua no Center for Advanced Visual Studies do Massachusetts Institute of Technology; diretor do Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry e fundador do Great Small Works (www.greatsmallworks.org), grupo de teatro do Brooklyn, New York. Publicou o livro American Puppet Modernism pela Palgrave/ Macmillan em 2008.
