Abstract

The objective of this review was to characterize the use of alternative legumes adapted to northeastern Brazil and to evaluate the effect of these on supply and production of sheep. Given the information, the importance of using these pulses to promote better productivity in northeastern Brazil in times of short supply of food for ruminants was noted and, thus, increased profitability in the sheep.

José Adelson Santana Neto, Doutorando em Zootecnia Universidade Federal da Paraíba

Possui Graduação em Zootecnia pela Universidade Federal de Sergipe (2011). Foi estagiário da Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (EMBRAPA Tabuleiros Costeiros), onde foi bolsista de Iniciação Científica (PIBIC) pela FAPITEC/SE nos períodos de 2008/2009 e 2009/2010 e bolsista de Iniciação em Desenvolvimento Tecnológico e Inovação (PIBIT) FAPITEC/SE no período de 2010/2011.Possui Mestrado em Zootecnia, na área de Produção Animal no Semi-árido (Linha de pesquisa: Alimentação e Nutrição Animal) pela Universidade Federal de Sergipe (2013). Foi bolsista do Programa de Bolsas de Mestrado e Doutorado da FAPITEC/SE. Atualmente faz doutorado em Zootecnia pela Universidade Federal da Paraíba/CCA Areia, é bolsista de Doutorado pela CAPES. Tem experiência na área de Zootecnia, com ênfase em Nutrição e Alimentação Animal, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: utilização de gliricídia na alimentação de ovinos, uso de subprodutos da mandioca na alimentação de pequenos ruminantes, confinamento, manejo de bovinos em sistemas silvipastoril e manejo de leguminosa arbórea.
